If you have a staircase in your home, you should use it to advantage! A staircase isn’t only a functional piece and part of your decor, it can be also made more practical if you don’t keep it just a staircase. Use this under the stairs space in various ways: make a laundry, a powder room, a home office, a closet or even a reading nook. I can’t wait to share some gorgeous ideas of such reading nooks under the stairs, dive in!
Reading Nooks
Organize a reading and relaxing nook under the stairs, and if it’s about reading, you should start with bookshelves. Place them under the stairs, on the wall or right into the staircase, such built-ins look very nice. Keep in mind that you will have to accommodate a chair, a loveseat or a daybed, too, so leave some space for it. These pieces of furniture can be also built-in, or you may add some pieces just next to the staircase. If there’s literally no space for them, stick to large and soft cushions and pillows placed right on the wall. The last but not least is the light: you should have a lot of light for reading, and this can be not only natural light but also various lamps, sconces and candle lanterns. No space for them? Stick to built-in lights and sconces, which take no floor space or attach some LED lights.

Bookcases And Bookshelves
If you can’t organize a reading nook or you already have one somewhere but have a lot of books to display and store, use your staircase for that. You may go for wall-mounted bookshelves under the stairs and over them, too, this will let you store a whole ton of books and turn your staircase in a lovely decor feature. Another idea is to build bookshelves right into the staircase, that will be trickier but such a staircase will achieve a maximal level of functionality. If it’s impossible just place some shelves on the side of the staircase and that will be fine, too. Get inspired by more ideas below!
