TWO Stunning DIY Christmas Wreaths Made with Loop Yarn

DIY Loop Yarn Christmas Wreaths COVER

Looking for an easy yet stunning way to decorate your home for Christmas? These DIY Christmas wreaths made with loop yarn might just become your new favorite holiday project. I made two versions this year—one that’s classic and elegant, and another that’s playful and cozy, perfect for a family-friendly vibe. Honestly, I couldn’t decide which one I liked more, so I hung them both!

Why I Love DIY Christmas Wreaths

Let’s be real—what’s Christmas without a wreath? It’s one of those must-have decorations that just screams festive. But store-bought ones can be either too boring or way too expensive. Making my own has become a little tradition, and every year I try to balance beauty and simplicity because, let’s face it, no one has days to spend on one craft (especially not during the holidays).

This year, I wanted to experiment with loop yarn because it’s so fluffy it looks like snow. The results? Two super charming wreaths that were fun to make and didn’t take forever. Let me walk you through each one!

Wreath #1: Classic Elegance with Evergreen Accents

What You’ll Need:

  • Foam wreath base (I used a 35 cm diameter).
  • White loop yarn (just over one skein).
  • Wide red ribbon.
  • Fresh greenery (I used juniper from my yard, but any evergreen will do).
  • Artificial red berries.
  • Hot glue gun.

How To Make It

  1. You won't need much for this wreath.

    Materials
  2. Start by wrapping the loop yarn around the foam wreath base. Don’t stress about making it perfect—this yarn is so fluffy it hides any little mistakes. It already looks like snowy magic at this point.

    Wrap the loop yarn
  3. Once the entire foam base is covered, apply hot glue to the seam where the two ends of the wreath base meet.

    Secure the wreath base ends
  4. Wrap a section at the bottom of the wreath with wide red ribbon and secure it with hot glue.

    Add the red ribbon
  5. Then, create a big red bow and glue it right in the center of the ribbon. Why so? You could easily make something new from this wreath base next year.

    Adding a bow
  6. This part felt so satisfying! I just tucked small sprigs of juniper into the loops of the yarn. If you’re using fake greenery, you can hot glue it for extra hold.

    Insert greenery
  7. Add a few clusters of red berries on either side of the bow for a festive pop of color. I've used faux ones.

    Finish with berries
  8. Thread a red ribbon through the top of the wreath, and it’s ready to hang!.

This wreath is so simple yet feels so festive. The fluffy “snow” texture of the yarn paired with the red and green accents just screams Christmas. Besides, you could easily rearrange it next year!

Wreath #2: Whimsical Fun with Felt Trees

What You’ll Need:

  • Same supplies as above (wreath base, loop yarn, red ribbon, glue gun).
  • Green felt.
  • Small white pom-poms.

How To Make These Felt Trees

  1. Wrap the base. Follow the same steps as Wreath #1 to cover the foam base with loop yarn. Next, download and print this template.

  2. Use my tree-shaped template to cut out four pieces of felt for each tree. I made mine slightly different sizes for variety.

  3. Glue the felt pieces together in layers to create 3D trees.

    Glue the trees
  4. Tip: glue one edge at a time and fold gently to get the right shape.

    Layer by layer
  5. I've made two trees in two sizes.

  6. Add some glue to bottoms of both trees.

    Glue on the bottom
  7. Glue the trees directly onto the bottom center of the wreath.

    Attach the trees
  8. Glue tiny white pom-poms onto the felt trees for a snowy effect. This step honestly made me grin—it’s so cute!.

    Add the SNOW
  9. Add your red ribbon and bow just like in the first wreath.

    Finish with ribbon
  10. Don't forget the bow!.
