Joey & Nicole Scibetta has managed to make a very nice smoker inspired by a moker that Alton Brown has made from ceramic pots in his video. You simply need to buy all the things mentioned below and assemble them together. The video give quite decent instructions but you can also read them on jokeandcoke blog.
After you have all the pieces it’s just a matter of assembling, the video does a good job at explaining but basically you set the hot place in the bottom of the larger pot with the cord coming out of the drain hole, that then hooks up to the extension cord which runs to the nearest outlet. On top of the hot plate goes the cast iron skillet (this is where the soaked wood chips go) over that goes the grate and then you top it all with the other terra-cotta pot which then holds the meat thermometer. For smoking you want the temp to be around 180-210 so you’ll want to play around with hot plate settings to see what achieves this. Here is a shot of our finished smoker, mounted on an old table.
