Hanging a rug on your wall can make your room look really cool, just like a painting does. Maybe you have an old family rug you don’t want to ruin by putting it on the floor, or you bought a nice rug on a trip but already have one on the floor. Or, you just think it would look awesome on the wall. There are many reasons to hang a rug instead of laying it on the floor. But, how do you do it?
There are a couple of ways to hang your rug on the wall. How you do it depends on how big and heavy your rug is, where you want to hang it, and what you like. But remember, don’t hang rugs right above or near a heat source like a vent or fireplace. And never use nails or pins to hang your rug because the weight will damage it.
Velcro
Using Velcro is a popular way to hang a rug, and even museums do it. This works well for heavy rugs and won’t damage them. First, staple a strip of hook-side Velcro to a thin, straight piece of wood that’s as wide as your rug. Then, attach this wood to the wall and stick the rug to the Velcro.

Clip and Rail System
A clip and rail system is another good way to hang a rug. You can buy clips that are specially made for hanging rugs. Attach the clips to the top edge of the rug and then hang the clips on a rail that you mount on the wall. This method spreads the weight evenly and doesn’t damage the rug.
Quilt Hangers
These hangers work great for rugs too. These have a clamp that you can tighten to hold the rug securely. You just place the top edge of the rug in the clamp and tighten it. Then, you hang the quilt hanger on the wall.
Curtain Or Tapestry Rod
Another way to hang a rug is to use a curtain rod. Sew a heavy cotton casing onto the back of the rug to make a tube near the top. Slide the curtain rod through this tube. Make sure the rod is strong enough to hold the rug without bending. You can make it look fancy by extending the rod beyond the edges of the rug and adding decorative ends. Or, if you don’t want the rod to show, use a rod that’s slightly shorter than the rug and hide the brackets behind the rug.
Similar to a curtain rod, a tapestry rod can also be used. These rods are usually designed to look decorative and can add an elegant touch to your rug display. You can sew a fabric sleeve or use curtain clips to attach the rug to the rod.

Mounting on a Wooden Frame
If your rug is small you can mount it on a wooden frame. First, make a frame that fits the size of your rug. Then, stretch the rug over the frame and staple or tack it down on the back side. This way, you can hang the frame on the wall like a big piece of art.
