A trestle desk or table is furniture piece comprising two or three trestle supports linked by a longitudinal cross-member over which a board or tabletop is placed. In the Middle Ages the trestle table was often little more than loose boards over trestle legs for ease of assembly and storage. This simple, collapsible style remained the most common Western form of table until the 16th century, when the basic trestle design gave way to stronger frame-based structures such as gateleg and refectory tables.
A modern trestle desk is a trendy item that can be seen in many workspaces, not only farmhouse or rustic ones. The main advantage of such a desk is that it doesn’t have legs on the corners, which can be useful in some situations. Another good point about such desks is that a trestle desk today doesn’t mean only wood, it can be made of glass and metal, glass and wood, metal and stone and much more and can have any size and color, which means that this piece will easily fit your home office anyway. What I like a lot about traditional trestle desks is that you can really use that leg space for open storage, and if you add a glass top or some drawers, you will have enough storage space yet keeping the design of the desk airy.

There are some disadvantages, too, though. Such a desk has support in the center of it as opposed to the corners. If you push down on the end of this desk or even sit on the edge, it will feel unstable or can even move. Trestle legs can get in the way of chairs and feet. Consider the shape and size of the legs when looking for your desk.
