We don’t drink wine very often, but over the years, some corks have piled up. Been wanting to make something fun with them, and now, with fall just around corner, the time finally came. It’s not like this is super original project, but hey, why not? Took me about 30 minutes to put together, most of it waiting for the paint to dry. So, if you’re looking to add something extra to your fall arrangements, go for it!
Materials You’ll Need
- 25 wine corks (or more if you want to make a bigger pumpkin, or a bunch of them)
- Orange acrylic paint
- Green felt
- Sharp knife
- Scissors
- Twine
- Hot glue gun
- Paintbrush
Step By Step Guide
Start by gathering 25 wine corks. Set aside one cork for later. It doesn't matter if they aren't the same.
Carefully slice off a small portion from one end of each of remaining 24 corks. You need to create a flat surface and ensure they are of the same length. This will also help the corks stack neatly.
Paint the flat ends of the sliced corks with orange acrylic paint. It's usually bright, so one layer is more than enough. Let the paint dry completely.
It’s time to assemble your pumpkin. Begin by arranging the corks in rows and gluing them together with a hot glue gun. Start with a row of 4 corks, followed by rows of 5, 6, 5, and finally 4 corks on top. This arrangement will create the round shape of the pumpkin.
Cut two leaves from the small piece of green felt. Attach these leaves to the top of the pumpkin near the stem using the glue gun.
For the pumpkin's stem, take the cork you set aside earlier and glue it to the top center of your "pumpkin", right above felt leaves. This cork will mimick the stem of a pumpkin.
To finish, wrap a piece of twine around the stem cork and tie it into a small bow, giving your pumpkin a rustic touch.
You can use it for different fall arrangements.
Here are some fun, creative ways to use your wine cork pumpkin. The first idea that comes in mind is placing it in the middle of your table. Add fall leaves, small pumpkins, and candles. You’ve got yourself a nice fall centerpiece. Next, try placing your DIY pumpkin on the mantel. Add some pine cones, mini pumpkins, and maybe a framed fall picture. Now, your living room is ready for fall. Don’t have a mantel but do have a bookshelf? You know what to do! Any flat surface would work to create a fall arrangement with this cute faux pumpkin!
