Many homeowners have decks, patios, terraces but if you want to design something unusual, I have an idea – go for a sunken patio! Why sunken? First of all, it stands out, second, a sunken space feels cozier, as if it’s a separate room, third, it helps you to get maximum of your space creating several levels.
A sunken patio is a lovely space that can be designed in many styles, colors and feature various types of rooms. The most popular styles for such spaces are contemporary, modern and minimalist as such a design feature is pretty new (it appeared in the middle of the 20th century) but you may still rock any style that attracts you. As for colors, all natural shades are welcome, and if you want to turn on brights, feel free to do that, too!

The most popular idea is a sunken terrace around a fire pit – you get a fire pit and build in some upholstered benches or sofas around it, this is a great conversation pit. A sunken patio or a terrace often shows off a wooden deck, whatever style you take, and can show off some built-in benches or seats, too, even if you don’t have a fireplace or fire pit here. You may locate the seating furniture in front of each other to still create a conversation pit but an outdoor one. Build in some lights underneath the seats or put lamps and candle lanterns around to create a mood. Greenery surrounding your deck or even growing right in it will be a cool idea to refresh the space visually or add privacy in case you go for greenery walls around. Get inspired by the ideas below and enjoy!
